Babis Papaioannou is a youth worker based in Thessaloniki- Greece. He is one of the pioneers of youth working in Greece. He is a PDH Candidate at the Department of Political Sciences of Thessaloniki Aristotle University, with a Master Degree from the Department of International and European Studies of the University of Macedonia, Thessaloniki, Greece on “European Youth Policies”.
He is the Head of the Unit for Monitoring of Regional Activities based in Thessaloniki of the General Secretariat for Vocational Education, Training and Lifelong Learning (www.neagenia.gr) of the Greek Ministry of Education and Religious Affairs and an international expert on building youth policy in local level. He was the Coordinator of Thessaloniki European Youth Capital 2014 (www.thessaloniki2014.gr) and the Strategic Manager of Tripolis-Arcadia, European City of Culture 2021, Candidate City (www.tripolisarcadia2021.gr).
In the period 2000 – 2002 he was the first Greek elected as bureau member of the European Youth Forum (http://www.youthforum.org). He is a full time employ of the Youth Directorate of the Greek Ministry of Education.
He is specialized on youth active participation and building youth policy in local level. He deals with European issues, digital agenda, networking and specifically with the sector of youth and local self-government. He has particular action in South East Europe. He participates and coordinates youth networks in Europe and Greece and participates in a number of congresses, activities and seminars all over the world on the subject of youth policy. He is a board member of the “Intercity Youth Network” (http://intercityyouth.eu ). National Coordinator of the “Europe Goes Local” in Greece (https://www.europegoeslocal.eu ). Coordinator of the National Working Group on Structure Dialogue on Youth and the European Youth Card in Greece.
